Give them quality. That’s the best kind of advertising. The essence of this quote by Milton Hershey is probably the reason for the grand success of yesteryear brands!

Today’s marketers are caught up with the need to churn out as much content as possible in the shortest amount of time! With customers wanting products at cheapest possible price, brands are trying to make the product in cheapest possible way, while overlooking the quality. And then spending heavy amounts in advertisements.

But are we forgetting something here? Isn’t quality the best kind of advertisement?

Prioritize Excellence
Deliver quality beyond comparison – that’s your ultimate marketing strategy. Milton Hershey’s insight holds the key to a successful brand. Instead of relying solely on flashy ads, channel your efforts into offering top-notch products and services.

Customer Advocacy
Even today, word of mouth advertisement works best! If the quality is great, your customers will automatically become your advocates!

When quality is your focus, your brand’s reputation shines brighter. Your content customers become your champions, sharing their positive encounters with others. This authentic, word-of-mouth advertising carries a weight no campaign can match.

As Danny Brown rightly said: 90% trust peers on social networks (even strangers); only 15-18% trust brands!

A Ripple Effect
Imagine this: one satisfied customer can influence countless potential buyers. Consistently delivering exceptional value builds trust and earns enthusiastic recommendations. This triggers an ongoing cycle of positive feedback that draws new customers organically.

Hershey’s Wisdom
Take to heart Milton Hershey’s wisdom: Give them quality. It’s the finest form of advertising. Invest in delivering unparalleled experiences, and watch your brand thrive through the potency of customer satisfaction and genuine advocacy.

Envisioning the destination before embarking on a journey is a principle that transcends time.

“Start with the end in mind and work backward” – Michael Stelzner

This quote encourages us to orient ourselves by first understanding the end goal, then meticulously crafting our path backward from there.

The Power of Foresight

Picture building a grand structure. The blueprint is not only about the foundation; it encompasses the intricate details of the finished edifice. Similarly, starting with the end in mind means clarifying your ultimate objective with precision. It’s like gazing at the completed puzzle before fitting the pieces together.

Unleashing Strategic Planning

By defining the desired outcome, you’re equipped to work in reverse, plotting each step with purpose. This approach transforms vagueness into strategy. It empowers you to break down ambitious goals into manageable actions, fostering a clear roadmap to success.

The Path of Efficiency

Imagine a labyrinth with a clear exit sign. Navigating the maze becomes less daunting when you know where you’re headed. Similarly, starting with the end in mind promotes efficiency. You allocate resources wisely, avoid detours, and direct your energy toward what truly matters.

Reverse Engineering Excellence

Consider a masterpiece painting. The artist doesn’t begin by randomly applying strokes. They envision the final masterpiece and layer by layer, bring it to life. By reverse engineering, you’re meticulously assembling the components that culminate in your envisioned success.

So, you can see this quote – Start with the end in mind and work backward can actually be applied in any field or any area of life!

Clearing Obstacles

Starting with the end in mind isn’t merely about setting a distant goal; it’s about foreseeing obstacles and opportunities. This vantage point helps you preemptively address challenges, adapt your plan, and circumvent pitfalls, enhancing your odds of triumph.

Anchoring to Purpose

Ultimately, this approach anchors your actions to a purposeful vision. It prevents aimless wandering and keeps you aligned with your aspirations. As you navigate the journey, the clarity of your destination fuels your determination and maintains your focus.

So, as you embark on endeavors, remember to envision your destination with utmost clarity. Once you’ve painted that mental picture, craft your steps backward, carefully placing each footfall on the path that leads to achievement. In this way, you tap into the art of planning with purpose, ensuring that every action carries you closer to your desired outcome.

For more tips, tricks and tutorials, follow us at @amazing_marketer

You can’t just blow your own horn without actually proving it!

That is another way of saying you can’t just keep marketing and telling people you are the best or your products are the best and expect high & sustained conversions… ‍

You have to back them up with proven quality & results and follow it up with providing the best customer experience!

A comedian can’t stand in front of an audience and tell them he’s funny! He has to tell the joke and let them decide!

Same way, ultimately it is your customers or clients who will decide if you are good and that is what will do the trick!

If they find you good, they will not only be your loyal customers but also your ‘marketing agents’. They will vouch for you and spread the word about how good your brand is without you having to tell them!

And that is the best form of promotion you can ever get! So don’t just talk about your brand. Become the brand, people would talk about!

You can’t use the ‘One Size Fits All’ approach when it comes to business.
Connect with the clients on a personal level, maybe a face to face interaction, know their exact requirements, and provide a solution tailored for them. It will set you apart as a brand!

So, ultimately, as Gary Vaynerchuk rightly said, the brands that can connect with the client in a real way will win!

None of us likes broken promises or should I say – every single person hates broken promises. If someone breaks their promise once, you will most likely not trust that person again with their promises.

The same is the case with brands and their customers. People will believe you once. If you fail to deliver what you promised, they will doubt you every time.

But this is something you can also take advantage of when building a brand.

Commit only what you can Deliver – Broken Promises Hurt!

Make promises for what you know for sure you can deliver. When you fulfil your promise, you are, in the most subtle way, making your customers believe in you. Even better, if you can deliver more than you promise.

Or put in other words, always promise slightly less than what you believe you can deliver. That ways you will have cushion just in case something goes wrong and if everything goes as planned, the customer gets more than what you committed. That not only builds trust but also a lot of positivity about the brand.

Never commit if you are not absolutely sure you will be able to keep it.

When it comes to making promises, never overestimate yourself. Be realistic!

Making promises and keeping them is a great way to build a brand because building a brand requires gaining trust of customers.

So keep your promises and keep your customers happy!

Gone are the days when marketing meant advertising the qualities of your brand or products to the customer and expecting them to trust the brand. No doubt, there are still buyers who get influenced by those advertisements, but most of them trust peers on social networks.

But that percentage has reduced drastically over time. This can be attributed to various factors.

Possible Reasons why 90% trust peers on social networks while only 15-18% trust brands!

People are becoming more and more aware.

There are a lot more brands offering the same products and services than there were earlier. With multiple choices and every brand claiming their product to be the best, it makes sense to ask for opinions from people who have already used the product.

Also, with the rising competition, the quality expectations of the buyer have also gone up.

Another truth, however hard it may be, is that lot of brands promise a lot more than they are delivering. Many brands have also been found to be misguiding the public for years. This has also led to mistrust towards brands as buyers become more aware.

Whom would you trust more?

A) Brands – What they say about themselves.
or
B) Peer Reviews.

Today, 90% trust peers (and even strangers) on social networks when it comes to reviews about a brand.

It is hight time to adapt and change the game!

So if you are still practicing the same self-advertising using promotional content and have not already optimized your marketing strategy to leverage the social aspect, then it is high time you do that.

Tell a Story

Everyone has a thought to express, a move to impress, an idea to revolutionize their life or world around them. The best way to convey all this is to string together words filled with emotions & memories and crafted into a beautiful story.

Make it True

But, there should be some truth about the story, if not, add to it. It will give another dimension to your story and preserve your unique perspective.

Make it Relevant

And ultimately, make it relevant by telling what’s the story all about? Once you figured out the theme of the story, you will be able to hone it further and that can elevate your story from being just about you.

A universal and uplifting theme will make it relevant to your readers and easy for them to engage till the end as well.

Make it compelling

Finally, examine your story again & again as a reader. Ask yourself – Does the story flow logically and chronologically ‍

Figure out what does your story do to the audience. Is that your intention? Does it stir emotions? Does it lead to action? Does the story make your audience laugh or connect?

The story has to be compelling else it fails the purpose!

Did you get the story

I didn’t But if you read it thus far, I just know it was COMPELLING!

The only point we are trying to make here is – “Tell a story. Make it true. Make it compelling. And make it relevant.”

So if you did, do let me know in the comments below!

Gone are the days, when you could just go out and tell the world (advertise) what your company is about and get people interested in your products by telling them how valuable your products are.

Nowadays, it is the customers who dictate the brand. You have to create what the customers value.

If the customers find your products/services valuable they will tell others , if they don’t like it they will tell even more people.

Customers’ opinions matter. They have the power to make or break a product.

A brand is no longer what we tell the consumer it is – it is what consumers tell each other it is.

So listening to the customers has become a must! Pay close attention to what your customers need and see what more can you offer them.

Your customers advertising for you matters a lot more than you advertising for yourself. People are more likely to believe other customers’ opinions as they are perceived as truthful and not having any ‘motives’.

So invest in the right place – make your customers happy and let them do the rest!

Rand Fishkin is the Co-Founder and Ex-CEO of MOZ and probably one of the best and most transparent marketers. And this statement from Rand Fishkin sums up an effective marketing campaign as it should be in the simplest way.

Make sure the customers are aware of your brand/product.

Create respect for your brand among your targeted audience.

Ensure that your brand comes across as trustworthy.

That’s all you need to sell your product. Once you have earned the respect and trust of potential buyers, you won’t have to go out and scream to the world to buy your products. The customers will come on their own. And the conversion would definitely be higher.

Even though everything is moving towards Digital, one thing that still works on Word-of-Mouth is the reputation.

As Seth Godin rightly said “You can’t fool all the people, not even most of the time. And people once unfooled, talk about the experience.”

People are still more likely to believe their friends, relatives or colleagues, or even strangers when it comes to reviews of the brands! You can convince the potential buyers that your product is great and make them buy once. But if it isn’t really what you are portraying it to be, they will soon find out and won’t come back.

You can mislead them once but not every time. And if you are actually delivering much less than what you committed, they will not stop at just not buying from you again. They will convince everyone they come across interested in your brand to not buy from you too.

Just like you can use the power of the digital medium to advertise your products and services, the customers can too, to leave reviews and ratings and vent out about their experience on social media.

And no matter how good the ratings are online, if someone shares a negative experience about a brand, people will be skeptical of buying from that brand. They may even share the story further even though they have not experienced it personally.

So, deliver what you promise or more, but never less. Don’t try to mislead the customer for small gains. Think long-term. Make your product or services stand out and strive to create a long-term relationship with your customers!
